Nashville VOTES
Thursday, Aug. 3rd 2023
My fellow constituents,
I’m Brian "Sully" Sullivan and I’m running for City Council District 4 and have lived in Nashville the past 14 years. Politics is a messy arena, so some of you might be asking, why willingly walk into a lions den? The answer is simple. I grew up the son of hard working musicians who walked a worried floor wanting the best life they could give my brother and I, so when I made Nashville my home, I wanted the same thing for people in our communities.
As a former journalist, I worked to tell their stories and how they overcame them to raise awareness about the issues they were facing. Later, I became an activist, fighting for representation, mental health, recovery and equity in our government. Now, I hope to serve District 4 and our city as an advocate for YOU.
There are a lot of important decisions Metro Council will make next year, including issues with developments like the East Bank property and new Titans’ stadium. Funding for organizations like the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition to help displaced families, a new police precinct and fire station near our district. Even the tone our city sets when the state attempts to resize our city council or pass discriminatory laws that affect our residents.
Our District deserves a representative who is going to work to provide our public safety departments with the tools they need to keep us protected. To solve our police and EMS recruitment and retention issues so we can offer competitive pay and lower response times. Someone who will encourage local businesses to join programs like the Safe Bar Project so they can help identify victims in need of emergency assistance. Making naloxone more accessible to lower the number of overdose deaths in our communities.
Making sure that Nashville remains a welcoming and safe place for people of all races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations and gender identities. Doing what we can as a city to protect their choices over who they love, and their own body.
Strengthening our tax assessor’s office to negotiate more accurate and affordable property tax rates. Supporting our thriving tourism industry, but making development decisions that put residents first.
I’m not just asking you to vote for me. I’m asking you to vote for US. I hope you’ll register, and cast your vote for the leader District 4 needs. Let’s head to the polls and put our government BACK into the hands of the people. See you there!
