In District 4 and all over greater Nashville residents have had to endure the ramifications of street racing in our neighborhoods. With 8 deaths related to the issue in the past year, it must be addressed. My plan is to work with local law enforcement to initiate tactics and proposed systems to successfully discourage and eliminate this safety threat and neighborhood issue.
We need to resolve our Police and Fire Departments' retainment and recruitment issues with competitive pay to help staff our precincts and reduce police and EMS response times.
We need to encourage local businesses to join initiatives like the Safe Bar Project to safely spot someone in an emergency situation and get them the help they need, preventing instances of sexual harassment, trafficking and assault.
Public health is an issue that affects every Nashvillian, not just District 4. We need to strengthen our nonprofits and organizations that assist our citizens in receiving adequate healthcare.
With over 46 overdoses in Nashville just this year, it is imperative that we increase access to Naloxone in our communities to reduce that number.
Strong City Council leadership that stands up to the state when they attempt to reduce our council size or pass discriminatory laws that affect our residents. Nashville is the biggest reason for the $1.8 billion in sales tax revenue and $27.5 billion in travel spending money for our state. That is due in large part to our city being a welcoming, inclusive community that protects its marginalized communities. There is always room for improvement, but we need to keep Nashville a beacon of hope for people of all races, genders and sexual orientations.
We need to support organizations that care for our displaced immigrant families and help offer them the legal representation and pathways to citizenship that they need.
Strengthening our school systems with competitive pay for teachers and staff so that we don't continue to see an exodus of experts in our educational institutions
Expanding our school lunch programs so that children can have access to healthy meals throughout the year
Metro Council will make a lot of important decisions next year regarding funding, development, and infrastructure. We need to support our thriving tourism industry but approve new developments in a way that puts residents FIRST.
We need to strengthen the property tax assessor's office to help residents negotiate a more accurate, affordable, and equitable property tax rate.
Our city needs to encourage small businesses, vendors, and bidders on contracts to offer opportunities to small, women, and minority-owned businesses.
